Item Description: | This programme looks at some alternative materials to steel in car body manufacture. It looks at three cars, each of which is made from a different sort of material. The first car is the Clan Crusader. It's made from glass reinforced plastic or GRP. The designer is Paul Haussauer. The second car is the Amigo. It's got a GRP outer skin but what matters underneath, the structural framework, is made from plywood. The designer is Frank Costin. The third car is a Morris Mini that is made from plastic. One of the men associated with the development of the plastic Mini is Alan Hill. |
