Description
Summary:This article reconsiders the vision of this state /estamento offered by the classical venezolanist historiography as well as the more innovative recent historiography. It also exposes the effective practices of the “pardocracy” mentioned or perhaps denounced by the Libertador. This approach will focus on an analysis of the discourse of some of the most privileged mestizos, socially as well as in terms of political representation, more specifically the curanderos. It will also highlith the restrictive positions expressed by the political and social elites, even the scientific elites, of the time towards these “subaltern” urban categories. The context of the commemorations organized by the cultural and academic institutions of Latin-American countries raises very contemporary and important questions, in order to go beyond the imposition of new official histories.
