This study examined a primary school in southern Taiwan that incorporates calligraphy education into its curriculum. Using a qualitative approach, the study included on-site interviews with four senior teachers experienced in calligraphy instruction, along with an analysis of school conditions, to explore the process, strategies, and effectiveness of implementing calligraphy education. The United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs) were used as a benchmark to assess the quality of education from a sustainability perspective. The key findings of the study are as follows: 1. the school faces insufficient funding and facilities for expanding calligraphy education; 2. the local community and parents are reluctant to participate in calligraphy activities; 3. the school administration, teachers, and students are well-coordinated in their calligraphy instruction efforts; 4. the school has established a strong foundation in calligraphy education; and 5. the implementation of calligraphy education aligns with the sustainability objectives of SDG4. These findings may serve as a valuable reference for the future development of calligraphy education in schools. |
