| Summary: | Political developments that began emerging at the start of the 19th century triggered mass migration movements of the Bosniaks. The initial direction of these migrations was from the Smederevo Sanjak towards the Bosnian Eyalet. After the Congress of Berlin in 1878, when the administration of Bosnia and Herzegovina was handed over to Austria-Hungary, the Bosniaks first relocated to the safer territories of the Ottoman Empire in Rumelia, and later to various regions of Anatolia. The First Balkan War, which broke out in 1912, caused further Bosniak migration from the Sanjak to Ottoman territories. With the migration of Bosniaks initially to the Ottoman lands and later to the territory of the Republic of Turkey, Slavic-Muslim linguistic enclaves emerged in Thrace and Anatolia. One such area is the city of Kırklareli. Field research conducted in the region has observed that the Bosnian language, especially used among Bosniaks living in Kırklareli, is linguistically heterogeneous. Considering the migration of Bosniaks from different regions of the former Yugoslavia, this heterogeneous linguistic structure can be regarded as usual. Regarding the verbs, which are the focus of this study, data obtained from the region show that the Sandžak dialect is dominant compared to other dialects of the Bosnian language. This paper focuses on the verbs in the speech of Bosniaks in Kırklareli. It also utilizes data collected through field research conducted as part of a doctoral dissertation entitled "The Speech of Bosniaks in Kırklareli," completed in 2024 at the Department of Balkan Studies, Institute of Social Sciences, Trakia University. |
