description | Background: The association between uterine fibroids and mortality remains inconclusive. This study evaluated the relationship between uterine fibroids and all-cause, cancer-specific, and cardiovascular disease (CVD)-specific mortality using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2006. Methods: A cohort analysis was conducted using NHANES data from 1999 to 2006. Weighted Cox proportional hazards regression models estimated hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess associations between uterine fibroids, age at diagnosis, and mortality outcomes. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests were performed to evaluate potential effect modification. Results: The study cohort comprised 5547 women aged 20–54 years across four survey cycles. During a median follow-up of 16.75 years, 290 deaths were recorded. After adjustment for confounders, no statistically significant associations were observed for all-cause mortality (HR: 0.96; 95% CI: 0.65–1.42), cancer-specific mortality (HR: 1.12; 95% CI: 0.64–1.96), or CVD-related mortality (HR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.38–2.14). Age-stratified analyses similarly revealed no significant associations across diagnostic age groups. Conclusions: These results indicate no elevated risk of all-cause, cancer-specific, or CVD-specific mortality associated with uterine fibroids. |
