Description
Summary:Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have significant potential to support agricultural transformation in Tanzania by enhancing information access, linkages, and productivity for smallholder farmers. However, realizing the full impacts of ICT requires addressing various constraints through an evidence-based approach. Objectively, this systematic review synthesizes peer-reviewed literature from 2015 to 2023 on ICT initiatives and research targeting the Tanzanian agriculture sector. The review identifies a range of interventions leveraging mobile phones, the internet, radio, and television to disseminate advisories and market information. Key gaps identified in the literature reveal a limited understanding of ICT usage patterns among marginalized groups and highlight the need for further research into long-term impacts on livelihoods. Based on the findings, the authors emphasize that addressing these gaps through gender-disaggregated analysis, longitudinal evaluations, and standardized indicators is essential for maximizing benefits. Overall, coordinated multi-stakeholder action is needed to strengthen Tanzania's agricultural ICT landscape, fostering inclusive and sustainable transformation.
