| Summary: | Mexican academic journals on history and anthropology have known in recent a process of accelerated modernization. Part of it was the progressive digitalization and online editing, driven by both the implicit problems of printed editions and the creation of the Índice Mexicano de Revistas de Investigación Científica Tecnológica of Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología. Nowadays, the remaining offline journals are rare (and temporary) exceptions. The article raises the issue that the technical possibilities of digital publishing have not been properly considered. At the same time, it argues that online publishing may have unexpected consequences, as the desegregation of contents, the interactive relationship with readers and the emergence of forms of social validation of the research. |
