| Summary: | This paper discusses diacritics in immigrant personal names in Sweden. A qualitative study, based on interviews with Swedes bearing Turkish, Kurdish, Croatian or Vietnamese names, investigates their level of knowledge and daily use of diacritics. It turns out that diacritics are barely in use. In some cases, the knowledge of the diacritics in the original name is lost in the younger generations; in other, informants are aware of diacritics in their own name, but choose to leave them out to make things easier.
