description The effects of a new fertilization method - NDSA (nitrogen depot with saturated ammonium) on the loss of nitrogen from ammonia volatilization and N leaching were studied by imitation experiments. The results showed that NDSA fertilization method led not only to delay ammonia volatilization, but also to decline in intensity of ammonia volatilization. The quantities of ammonia volatilization in the treatments of NDSA1 and NDSA2 decreased by 14.7% and 25.7%, respectively, vs. treatments of CK1 and CK2 in silt loamy soil, but both by 25% in degelyed dark paddy soil. The quantities of ammonia volatilization from the treatments of degelyed dark paddy soil were only 25% of those from the corresponding treatments of silt loamy soil. Nitrogen was mainly leached in the form of NO<sub>3</sub><sup>-</sup>-N. NDSA fertilization method, especially in the case of NDSA2, significantly decreased leaching of nitrogen from soil due to the effect of NDSA on inhibition of nitrification of fertilizer N.
