Summary: | In this review article, we present current clinical data about the effects of transfused hemocomponents upon immune system of the recipients, and about transfusion-related immunomodulation, with emphasis on the role of T-regulatory (Treg) cells in these events. The article describes a role of Treg’s in development of tolerance to self-antigens, in decrease of anti-neoplastic and anti-infection immune response, and their proposed role in transfusion-related immunomodulatory effects. |
