Description
Summary:In the 16th century, a period of maritime expansion and incentive to produce new works that would help navigators in their missions, different literate sought to guide the men who were willing to travel to America. With emphasis on this type of edifying material, such as the Libro de los inventores del arte de marear y de muchos trabajos que se pasan en las galeras (1539), by friar Antonio de Guevara, who narrates the daily life on board, and in the other works such as the Historia de la venida de los religiosos a la provincia de Chiapa (1544-1545), by friar Tomás de la Torre and the Carta escrita al licenciado Miranda de Ron (1573), by Eugenio de Salazar, the proposal of this work will consist in analyzing the regulation of the daily life of a spanish vessel in the 16th century. More precisely, this study will examine measures taken by these authors to help navigators take care of their souls and their bodies during the journey. Crossing different prescriptions, this study will thus seek to question how these spaniards should feed, drees, clean themselves and preserve their own salvation.
