Description
Summary:Background: This study aimed to analyze the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) based on health-related characteristics in patients with diabetes and identify the factors influencing oral health-related quality of life. Methods: A self-administered survey was conducted with 290 patients with diabetes aged 30 and older, recruited from a dental clinic and an online community. The survey assessed general characteristics, health management behaviors, diabetes-related conditions, and OHIP-14 scores. Results: Oral health-related quality of life was lower in patients with more comorbidities, greater intake of nutritional supplements, poor toothbrushing methods, and more oral hygiene aids. In addition, poor blood glucose control and insulin use were significantly associated with lower OHIP-14 scores. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of integrating oral health education and management programs into diabetes care to enhance the overall quality of life for patients.
