| Riassunto: | In this ‘position paper’ theoretical perspectives and political views on urban segregation will be scrutinized. Theoretical perspectives include 1) the institutional context; 2) structural conditions; and 3) individual preferences and constraints. These perspectives help to understand segregation, and how it is framed by politicians and policy makers. The discussion also entails the question when and why segregation should be regarded a problem. When is segregation causing extra effects, on top of the sum of individual effects related to the population composition of the segregated area? Are the effects justifying interventions? Is there an awareness that not all interventions serve the residents? The discussion triggers critical reflection on theory, politics and policy practices and brings us new challenges |
