Summary: | The kinetics of NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup> adsorption and desorption by a natural zeolite clinoptilotite were investigated. Kinetic models evaluated at different equilibrium NH4<sup>+</sup> concentrations included the first-order kinetics, modified Freundlich, parabolic diffusion, and heterogeneous diffusion. They described the NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup> adsorption process well, with r<sup>2</sup> values ranging from 0.843 to 0.997. The desorption of the adsorbed NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup> was far more rapid than the adsorption. The influence of pH on adsorption depends on the buffer solution used and its concentration. |
