Item Description: | Sinister, repulsive, unpredictable- words often used to describe crocodiles. Certainly they are ancient creatures that have changed little since their ancestors lurked in the quiet waters of tropical lakes and rivers in the age of the dinosaurs, some 140 million years ago. They usually tackle prey too large to swallow in one gulp and since they can't chew, they have to tear it apart by getting a grip with their jaws and spinning themselves around. Sinister they may be to some but here in a crocodile farm in South Africa, new facts about crocodile behaviour are being discovered which may make us a little more sympathetic towards them. |
