| Item Description: | Just five kilometres away from New Guinea's border with the Indonesian province of West Irian is the Catholic mission at Kamberatoro. As the mission priest puts it, in recent months the congregation has increased but the collection hasn't. In all, nearly one thousand West Irianese have crossed the border to take refuge at the mission. That creates a problem for the church and a dilemma for the New Guinea government. The church has the problem of feeding them. The government, the dilemma of deciding what to do with them. As for the border-crossers themselves, they're in no hurry to go back. |
